ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Arunachalee pugilist Tonibala Chanu entered the women boxing finals by defeating Krishna Thapa of Uttarakhand by 10 points today at the TSGA indoor stadium, Thripaya, Thrisur Kerala.
In the intensely fought Bout no. 44, after the fourth round Tonibala scored 24 points while her rival Thapa scored 14 points. With this win, Chanu has ensured at least a Silver Medal. J N College NSS unit conducts annual special camping prog
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: The NSS unit of J N College, Pasighat successfully conducted its
annual special camping programme 2014-
Altogether 165 volunteers participated in the programme which was guided by Programme Officers, W G Gyana and T Payum.
During the camp, 100 metres traditional flood control dam in the right bank of Debing river was constructed by using rocks, bamboos and cane. The dam would protect the village from the fury of the river. It is said that the river water damages the houses, village school and the paddy fields during the monsoon season.
The NSS volunteers and faculty members visited Debing Middle School and interacted with the students and the teaching staffs. The team discussed on motivational topics in class with the students. They also held an interaction session with the villagers in which education, poverty, health and hygiene, entrepreneurship, economy of the village and state were discussed.
Earlier, the Programme Officers briefed the volunteers and the villagers about the aims and objectives, functions and relevance of National Service Scheme (NSS).
The faculty members, namely, assistant professors T Mibang, Dr R Dupak, M Gao and Lab Asstt. A Pertin and Village Secretary, Anchal Samity Members, Gaon Bhuras and other village representatives took part in the programme.

Army recruitment rally begins at Khonsa

Students for early completion of Dibang bridge
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: The Dibang Adi Students Union (DASU) has written to Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley drawing attention towards delay in completion of bridge over Dibang River. Union claimed that Dibang Bridge Project is a long felt dream of Dambuk people and since the start of the project, general public of Lower Dibang Valley has extended cooperation to this project which is supposed to be completed in the year 2015. However, the construction agency has delayed the project without any reason, the union alleged, while appealing the DC to pass necessary direction to the executing agency to complete project on time.
DASU also called for proper implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility by the construction agency. They claim that the company never provided assistance in education and health sector thereby violating CSR.

Govt. planning special policy to boost hydel generation: Goyal
Work on 2,000 MW Subansiri project to be revived
Mumbai, Feb 12: To boost hydel power generation and resume those small projects in the sector which have been delayed due to various reasons, the Union Power ministry is planning to design a special policy, which will also ensure that a new project is announced only after getting necessary approvals are in place.
"There are a number of small hydel projects which have been stuck due to various reasons, including regulatory approvals. Our intent is to get them started soon.
"Therefore, we are planning to formulate a special small hydel power policy to remove the hurdles in implementing such projects," Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal told a gathering at the Progressive Maharashtra Summit organised by industry body FICCI here today.
Calling for a radical change in the way large infra projects are announced, Goyal said it should be ensured that no projects are announced without the necessary approvals and land clearances, and the right of way are in place.
"We have to take a conscious decision before starting new projects. Announcements should be made only after the necessary approvals are in place," he said.
The Modi government has set an ambitious target for renewable energy over the next five years at 3,000 billion units from the present 53 billion. The overall target is to double generation to 2 trillion units.
The government is also working towards reviving large hydro projects including the

"Huge investments have gone into these projects which have now been delayed due to regulatory approvals. The Teesta project is of national importance and we have to support it as much as possible. Investments made by investors, contractors and promoters are stuck. We are sure we will be able to come to a conclusion soon.
"Besides, we are also in talks with the MP and Andhra governments for the revival of the stuck hydel projects in their states," he said. .
Reiterating the government's commitment on increasing energy capacity and become a power surplus state in the next five years, Goyal said, "we are looking at nearly USD 250 billion investments into the sector in the next few years." He said there is also a need to rework on the tax regime and regulatory framework to ensure investments come into the country.
"There is no dearth of money (with international firms) but we don't have the capacity to absorb them. They are waiting to come to us. We expect nearly USD 250 billion investments in all forms of power generation as well as coal," he said.

Shillong, Feb 12: According to an education report for the North East released by an NGO today, over 50 per cent schools in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya does not have a separate toilet for girls and does not have facilities for drinking water. Even when the provisions were available and unlocked but most of these are not usable, it said.

8 persons die in road accident
ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Eight persons died and three others were injured when the car they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Halaipani Bridge under Manchal circle in Anjaw District on February 10 last.
According to information received from Additional Deputy Commissioner, Hayuliang, the accident occurred when a Xylo car bearing registration No. AS01 AK 0014 was coming from Assam carrying labourers for the construction of ALG, Walong and fell into 100 metres deep gorge near Halaipani bridge at around 3.30 pm.
However, the driver miraculously escaped with minor injuries. The driver was allegedly under influence of alcohol which seemed to be the cause of accident.
The deceased were identified as Atul Das,(43), Bipat Bhowmik (28), Shivsharan Das(54), Ranjit Das (40), Nagen Kheruvar (45), Karthik Das (30), Pankhaj Das (33) and Jangahadur Das (49). All the 11 labourers including injured were from Goalpara district and the driver was from Dibrugarh district, Assam.
A team of Govt officers led by ADC Hage Ruja along with Police and medical team rushed to the accident site soon after the receipt of information. Though the rescue operation was carried out with the help of Army personnel throughout the night, the bodies could be traced out next day. The personnel from RCC GREF based at Hayuliang also reached the spot and extended help.

Forest dept conducts inquiry into elephant hunting cases

PASIGHAT, Feb 12: The Forest department of Pasighat is conducting a thorough inquiry into the reported wildlife hunting cases in East Siang district and it has managed to nab eight persons involved in wildlife crime so far.
The unabated hunting of wild elephant in the jungles of Mebo area, which has come
as a shock to many is reported to be the reason behind the order of the inquiry.

The forest officials subsequently picked up four persons from Siluk (East Siang) and Dambuk (Lower Dibang Valley) villages and booked them under Wildlife Protection (WLP) Acts. Later, they were handed over to police for further action. The accused, however, managed to get bail from judicial custody.
Later, the joint team of forest and police nabbed four others including two elephant trainers from Kerem area of Namsai district early this month. The investigating team also recovered two elephant calves from their possession. According to report, the four accused (arrested under WLP Act) have admitted their offence before the investigation officers.
From night watchman to a successful filmmaker
Itanagar, Feb 12: Bored with his job as a night watchman, Tage Richo turned to filmmaking.
The 42-
Richo was bored with his job of a night chowkidar at the state civil secretariat and desperately wanted to break free. So after three years of service he one day resigned to pursue his dream.
"In 1993, I came to know that an audition for an Apatani audio album was being held at Itanagar. So, I came from Ziro to try my luck. I learnt that Taro Chatung was looking for an artist for his upcoming film 'Frontier student'," he said.
"Instead of attending the audition, I met Chatung. Just after a brief interaction, he agreed to offer me a role in his film. It was the beginning."
Thereafter, he acted in many short films for Doordrashan Itanagar and also worked as cameraman for the then popular news show 'News & Views' under Taro Chatung for more than three years.
In 2003, he directed a comedy film 'Dolyang Lampii' in Apatani, and in 2005, he directed
'Vishwasgath' a local Hindi feature film. In 2006, he again directed Dolyang Lampii-
He also produced two feature films in Apatani 'O Tanjo Nyima' and 'Onya' in 2011 and 2013 where he played lead roles.
Richo is planning to produce films in his dialect so that the rich cultural heritage of the Apatani community could be exposed to the outside world.

Political turmoil at Bihar
Political turmoil in Bihar took a major twist today when newly elected Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar alleged that his party MLAs are being lured with ministerial positions and one crore rupees by opposition BJP. Kumar also blamed the leadership of the Bharatiya Janta Party for orchestrating the political turmoil in Bihar. Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is running a minority government ever since JD (U) expelled him from party and elected Nitish Kumar as new leader.
Media report stated that Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi has given CM Manjhi February 20, deadline to prove his majority. JD (U) and other opposition parties are alleging that Governor is encouraging horse trading by giving ample time to Manjhi to prove his majority. They are demanding an early assembly session. It is quite tough to say whether the allegation leveled by JD (U) is true. However such kind of allegation against BJP and office of Governor does not augur well. Horse trading is against the spirit of democracy and should be discouraged at any cost. Also the Governor should maintain neutrality and stop taking side. All the political parties be it JD (U) or BJP should remember that Bihar is socially and economically very sensitive state. Any wrong step can have catastrophic effect on rest of the country.

Delhi Election Results Shows Robustness of Our Democracy

After about a year-
The only comparison in recent times to this landslide victory of AAP could be found in Sikkim when in 2004 Sikkim Democratic Front won 31 out of 32 assembly seats and in 2009 it won all 32 seats. AAP’s victory has far surpassed predictions of all exit polls, which indicated win of AAP but not to the extent that the actual results have come to be.
Following the stupendous victory of a 27-
India is a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic. And, Republic underlines that every citizen is expected to play an active role in governing the state. Breaking all previous records, about 70 per cent of the electorates have cast their votes this time to exercise their political right. Especially, participation of young voters and the marginalized and the underprivileged shows promising sign of a true Republic.
In this large number of voter turnout, one can find the rationale of the theory propounded by the ancient Roman philosopher Cicero. He professed that all people are equal, not necessarily in wealth or learning, but in their possession of reason and their basic perception of good. People of Delhi recognized the error of fractured verdict given by them in 2013 assembly election, the hasty exit of AAP after 49 days in power for which the party has admitted its mistake and sought forgiveness with promise to correct its approach. This time voters have provided the means for rectification by giving AAP absolute majority, albeit full total assembly seats, to govern and rule. This indeed demonstrates matured democratic process that the people of Delhi followed.
Also, the citizens of Delhi have complied with a fundamental tenet of democracy by
remembering the past, understanding the present and looking into the future. The
past has been smeared by corruptive practices, tall promises but poor action. The
current need is for arresting these vicious traits and building inclusiveness. The
voters have looked into the future for a political culture of transparent, corruption-

The woes of commuters
Dear Editor,
A news caption appeared in your esteemed daily (11th Feb, 2015) on the poor quality
of road constructed on Hill Top Colony Road as raised by the Dokum Colony Welfare
Committee. All voices should be with the initiative of the Committee as it is utterly
irresponsible on the part of the contractor to show negligence. Moreover, one fails
to understand how the concerned engineers are allowing such things to happen. Just
to share with public that it is the road leading to the rows of bungalows of ministers
and parliamentary secretaries. In such a situation, public will be confused whether
it is the audacity of the contractor or the inefficiency of the engineering department
or the apathy of the district administration and the urban bodies or the lack of
steam of the ever-
The poor quality of the road is there as the exhibits to be seen and felt.
This few weeks old repaired road may not sustain till March even before bills are paid if not cleared already but it is rest assured that commuters woes would be soon back with the very first shower of Spring, if not now itself!
